Since early days of movie history, there have been film- makers, who have refused all pressures and imposition from big studios, to freely create. Started in the

, through many generations of brave and talented film-makers, independent films has continuously developed, become popular to audience as an art and taken part in upholding the vitality of cinema.

Today, in support of modern technology, prestigious awards such as Independent Spirit Award and Sundance Festival and especially great success of many independent films including Blair Witch Project, Little Miss Sunshine, Juno and most recent Slumdog Millionaire, Independent Film Spirit has been spreading all over the world, encourage young film makers globally.

About El mariachi (1992)

Director: Robert Rodriguez

Genre: Action / Adventure / Western

The movie is about a wandering guitarist who was loath to become a shooter. With various budget yet impressive action scenes, the movie soon got attention and affection from audience in Sundance Festival 1993. It was the first success of today famous action director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Pla). With only $7000 of budget, El Mariachi still found its way to become a big hit. The movie is dream of many low-budgets films, which are very typical of American independent films.

The Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents was established under the Decision 236/HĐA signed by Mr. Tran Luân Kim, Secretary General of Vietnam Cinema Association on 15 August 2002, with the purposes to design and implement programs to assist and develop movie talents and other activities for the development of Vietnam cinema.
