About 881

Getai is a traditional performance of the Ullambana festival in Singapore. In spite of being occasional, this kind of traditional performance is very popular and its artists also gained lots of affection from the public. The movie tells the story of 2 girls trying to make a Gentai band named Papaya sisters (The pronunciation of the word “Papaya” is similar to “881” in Chinese Mandarin). The movie genre is a mix of Musical, Comedy and a bit of Fantasy, yet it is moving enough to be considered a fine Drama. The success of the movie is also for its amazing and eye-catching scenes, which is considered a trade mark of Royston Tan.

The topical discussion and screening is free-entranced and non-profit.
