CO-PRODUCTION MARKETS
Cinemart – Rotterdam – The Netherlands
The International Film Festival Rotterdam launched CineMart 24 years ago as
a regular co-production market. However, it quickly became apparent that there
was a greater need for a new kind of platform to present projects looking for
additional financing.
With that in mind, the IFFR remodelled CineMart as an effective co-production
market, the first of its kind. Throughout its history, CineMart has proven to
be an
integral part of the film industry, providing an indispensable platform to
support the realization of new film projects and heralding the start of each
new ‘film year.’
Cinemart selected each year around 45/50 Art house feature projects coming from
all over the world and organizes meetings for 4 days during IFFR.
The formula of introducing projects to potential co-producers, sales agents,
television buyers, distributors and financiers in one-on-one meetings has
proven to be so effective that many festivals have used the same blueprint to
create their own co-production markets. CineMart is pleased to be working
together with many of them, including Cannes, Berlin, Pusan, Hong Kong, Buenos
Aires, Independent Features Project (IFP), Sithengi Film and Television Market,
Paris Cinema and CineLink.
Each year during Cinemart some grants are given to 2 or 3 projects selected in
the co production market by 3 different juries (Prince Claus Grant, Arte).
These grants are between 5.000€ to 15.000€
Deadline to apply for a project : 31st August each year.

L'ATELIER DU FESTIVAL – Festival de

In 2005, the Festival gave the Cinéfondation the task of organizing
L'Atelier, a new step in its action to promote the creation of new works.
Each year, L'Atelier selects about 15 feature length projects from around the

them in contact with film professionals. The filmmakers are selected according
to the quality of their project and that of their previous films, as well as on
the state of progress of their finance plan. The program will enable them to
gain access to international financing and speed up the production process.
In order to help the selected filmmakers, L'Atelier undertakes to:
* publish a Project Brochure to promote the film projects and present the
directors and their producers to film professionals and the medias.
* organise appointments with producers, distributors and grant distribution
managers in the L'Atelier pavilion, situated in the Village
international-Pantiero, in order to meet any shortfall with other already
agreed financing. The filmmakers' previous films and screenplays will be made
available for consultation.
* associate the selected filmmakers with the daily life of the Festival by
providing them with access to the daily Festival screenings, meetings and

DAAD – Berlin, Germany
The Berlin Artists-in-Residence program, Berliner Künstlerprogram, is one
of the most renowned international programs offering grants to artists in the
fields of visual arts, literature, music and film. Each year, some 20 grants
are awarded to international artists for approximately a one-year stay in
Berlin. The names of over 930 former guests impressively underscore the quality
of the program. In its more than forty years of existence, it has made a
significant contribution to the international representation of contemporary
arts in Berlin.
From the very beginning, the Berliner Künstlerprogram has defined itself as a
forum of artistic dialogue which extends beyond cultural, geographical and,
certainly, beyond political borders. This forum is effective and vigorous not
only through the work and presence of the artists living in the city, but also
through the approximately 100 events a year which the Berliner Künstlerprogramm
hosts in conjunction with its guests in Berlin and other locations, and not
least, by the international juries of experts in the four sections who decide
upon the invitations to be issued.
The expressed intention of the Berliner Künstlerprogramm is to create waves
extending far beyond the capital city. Close cooperation with various cultural
institutions, museums, literary, music and film festivals has led to a
sustained,
nationwide influence: many guests remain in Germany after their grants and so
enhance the cultural scene, for example as temporary lecturers at colleges of
art and universities in the Federal Republic. In this way, standpoints of the
international artistic avant-garde are mediated, not only in Berlin,
stimulating both aesthetic and political discourse.
One aim of the Berliner Künstlerprogramm is to offer freedom of creativity.
While cultural traditions are threatened by a uniform levelling out in the
process of globalization, the Berlin Künstlerprogramm promotes the diversity of
artistic and literary positions. The notion of dialogue is central: other
nations' perspectives on conditions here - in film, art, literature or music -
are to be seen as a decisive incentive to self-reflection in our society.
The Berliner Künstlerprogramm sees itself as a platform for an exchange of art
and culture extending beyond the boundaries of Europe. The year 1989 and the
Fall of the Wall are viewed by the Berliner Künstlerprogramm as a commission to
reinforce the freedom of art and the word. At the same time, the program therefore
opposes the economic takeover of cultural values by liberating artistic
creativity from the dictates of the market.
