Friday with Vietnam Cinema

adrift.jpg1. Introduction

Dear all movie lovers,

Center for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents- Vietnam Cinema Association was established on August 15th, 2002, with the purposes to design and implement events to assist and develop movie talents and other activities for the development of Vietnam cinema. Many projects of TPD have received great support and participation from movie lovers all over the nation, including project "10 months 10 films", "Cinema Space", "We are the Filmmakers"

In recent years, under the project "Cinema Space" of TPD Center, a great number of film screenings have been set up at weekend, many of which have been screenings of Vietnamese movies. Aiming to boost the promotion of Vietnamese cinematic works to not only native people but also foreign audience, TPD Center has decided to organize screenings of Vietnamese movies every Friday night.

Movies selected for the screenings are outstanding artworks of temporary Vietnamese cinema. The first selected ones are 3 films of director Bui Thac Chuyen, including short film Cuoc xe dem (Cinefondation's Third Prize at Cannes Film Festival 2000), feature film Living in fear (Grand Jury Award at Asian Pacific Film Festival 2006, First Prize Asian New Talent Award at Shanghai International Film Festival 2006) and feature film Adrift (Fipresci Award at Venice Film Festival 2009, 3 nominations at Asian Film Awards 2010), together with short films of projects "10 months 10 films" and "We are the filmmakers"

The screenings of "Living in Fear" and "Adrift" were under agreement between TPD Center and Feature Film 1, producing company and copyrights holder of the movies. Under this agreement, TPD Center is allowed to use these two movies for the promotion of Vietnamese cinema and fundraising activities of the center.

From 2003, all activities of Center for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents (TPD) were funded by Ford Foundation. In 2009, Ford Foundation closed its office in Vietnam. TPD center is now in search of new sponsors for its activities.

Different from other non-profit screenings on Saturday afternoon, the program Friday with Vietnam Cinema is a fundraising event. In this program, we are calling out for audiences' contribution to continue the operation of TPD Center in the future.
