1. Purposes:
Experientially,
the use of short movies as a training focus is much suitable to financial and
technical constraints of
This project is
designed on the basis of lessons from the First ‘Ten Months, Ten Movies” for
young filmmakers. This training course will end with some festivals of short
movies. Thus, the project forces young filmmakers to contact a large audience
at home and maybe internationally.
2. Expected
rusults
This project is
aimed to encourage and discover young potential movie talents. It will also create
good environment for young filmmakers and their ideas. After the project, the ten finished quality short movies will have
chances to attend Vietnamese and international short film festivals. So, this
project can become the bridge between Vietnamese young cinema and the world’s,
through the short film festival organized at the end of the project.
3. Development
The project will
be carried out as follows:
With the
assistance of professional filmmakers in the world, the "Short Movie"
Course is aimed to help Vietnamese young filmmakers to develop their scripts
and produce ten short movies within ten months.
Following the
successful First "10 Months, 10 Short Films 2003" in 2003,
"10 Months, 10 Short Films 2005" continues to fund
Vietnamese young filmmakers to make short feature films through nurturing
courses on fundamental cinematographic skills: writing scripts, directing,
montage, sound effects, and filmmaking. The main trainees under the project are
undergraduates or new graduates from the cinematography colleges in
4. Implementation
May-June 2005
The training
course for scriptwriters was run by lecturer Anthony Fabian from 23 May to 11
July and attended by 10 trainees including young directors/scriptwriters whose
good screenplays were approved by the Center’s Artistic Council.
Result: Through
this course, the trainees were equipped with good knowledge and modern style of
script-writing. The screenplays were further developed and the trainees had
more opportunities to improve their professional skills. The course was a
success in which both trainees and lecturers felt satisfied.
July-August 2005
During this
period, the trainees perfected their screenplays and made necessary
preparations to shoot their short movies. They could work with their
supervisors who are famous Vietnamese directors to produce short movies:
Results: The
trainees and lecturers cooperated together in dividing the screenplays into
different scenes, searching for settings, performers and cinematographers,
setting up the shooting plans... So, the filmming plans were carried out on
schedule.
August-September
2005:
The trainees shot
their movies with DVCam cameras
October-November
2005:
The class on
montage lasted from 1 to 19 November under French instructor Christine
Bouteiller. The trainees finished their films using the nonlinear software
Final Cut Pro.
